Statistics you should know
Unfortunately, there are many parents and community members who still believe that it’s okay for kids to drink in a private home. In some cases, adults even provide the alcohol. Some actually believe that if they take the kids’ keys away before the teen starts drinking, it will somehow be safer. But underage drinking is harmful no matter where it happens – on a road, at a party or in someone’s home under close supervision. It is never okay for a minor to drink. In fact, it’s illegal for both the minor and the person who provides the alcohol to the minor.
Social hosting is allowing or turning a blind-eye to minors in your home or on your property to consume alcoholic liquor or cereal malt beverages.
Under Nebraska law, adults who host an underage drinking party, or provide or sell alcohol to a minor, can be held liable if the intoxicated minor injuries or kills an innocent third party. It’s true.
You could also spend up to a year in jail; receive a $1000 fine or both if you provide alcohol to a minor. It’s already happened to many people right here in Nebraska.
